PaceBack in late 2006 I had reached my bottom. I had lost another job because of my drug use, I was homeless, and running out of money. How many times had I done this before? I felt utterly hopeless. Only 23 years old at the time, most would say still a little wet behind the ears. I was a failure at everything it seemed except abusing dope and myself in the process. I attempted college once but never made it to class. I was unable to hold a job for more than a few months. So that one fall day in 2006, my boss came into the bathroom during break and found me under the influence of Captain Morgan and snorting lines of cocaine off of a toilet top. Pretty disgusting I know. So there I was once again at a crossroads. Was I to repeat the cycle once again: back to jail, struggle to find another job, more dope, more tears, further isolation?? I took what little I had left and chose Option B—there has got to be a better way... At Solutions of North Texas I found out just how truly twisted I was mentally. I leveled my pride and after some thorough soul-searching I realized how truly sick all of my ideas, emotions, and attitudes were. A spiritual tool kit, if you will, was provided to me at SONTX. If I were to ever fully recover I must find a whole new outlook on life. I found it!! I implemented the tools given to me!! What I have today is, ‘a daily reprieve contingent on the maintenance of my spiritual condition.’ I have found my purpose in life. Daily, I share my story of recovery with others struggling with addiction. I am now managing a men’s homeless shelter in Amarillo. Although, in the next few months you’ll see a new sober living home in Amarillo similar to Solutions of North Texas. I am founding a refuge for those suffering the horrors of addiction, where a path to lasting sobriety will be simply laid out for all willing to take the journey. I love to share my testimony with others personally, listen to their stories, and offer what I have learned along the way.
